  • STABLE was developed by Kristine Karlsen, MSN, RNC, NNP, in Utah in 1996. This
one-day course is taught by experienced neonatal/pediatric care providers trained in
high acuity transport. The course teaches assessment and stabilization of sick infants in the
post-resuscitation and pre-transport period. This course includes guidelines that address:

    Sugar and safe care
    Temperature
    Airway
    Blood pressure
    Lab work
    Emotional support

This program is designed to provide important information about neonatal stabilization
for maternal/infant healthcare providers in ALL settings; staff in community hospitals,
birth centers, and emergency rooms can benefit.

    STABLE Cardiac Module:

This approximately 6-hour class is designed for all healthcare providers. This additional
module includes guidelines for neonates with severe congenital heart disease (CHD).
Each year, 1% of babies born in the US are diagnosed with CHD. Prompt, effective care
of these neonates can reduce secondary organ damage, improve outcomes, and reduce mortality.
